Classroom Guidelines
A. General Guidelines
1. How can I succeed in Level 9/Level 1Physics?
-
If you are motivated and are willing to work hard, then doing
well in Physics is possible even if you happen to sink to the bottom on
a particlar test.
2. How can I succeed in AP Physics?
-
At this stage of the game, you are completeing college based
material. Your grade is now based on what you bring to the table
(what you can show me) and not solely effort.
3. What do I need to bring to class on a daily basis?
-
Your own textbook
-
3 Ring Binder (with paper)
-
Something to write down all of the important information
-
Calculator
-
Graphing is alright but not necessarily needed
-
As long as it does the basic functions, you will be fine:
-
add, subtract, multiply, and divide
-
trig functions
-
exponent key
4. What will I not need to bring
to class on a daily basis?
-
All Electronic Devices
-
Cell phones
-
CD, MP3, hand-held game devices
-
Pagers
- All of the above will be taken and can be picked up in the
main office at the end of the day
-
Food of any kind!
-
Beverages
-
The only beverage that will be allowed is water. It
must be in a transparent bottle with a secure lid/top. All other
beverages will poured into the collection tank.
-
Please, NO BEVERAGES OF ANY KIND DURING LAB TIME!!
5. Behavior
-
Respect is the name of the game. The only way to get
respect is to give. I will give you respect onlly if given
respect from you.
-
Always respect your fellow classmates; especially when someone
is asking/answering a question. It may be the same question
you have.
B. Laboratory Rules
1. READ LAB CAREFULLY BEFORE COMING TO CLASS!
-
Labs will be given to you a day before the actual class.
It is your job to read through the material so that when you enter
class you will be able to get to work right away.
-
Any last minute changes in the lab will be stated before you
begin the lab.
2. Handle equipment with extreme care!
-
Most of the equipment (laptop, LabPro, Pasco) that you will be
using is expensive. There will be no goofing around during
labs. Stay at your own table with your partner(s) and work on the
lab.
-
There will be a signout sheet for the laptops and LabPro
systems. Each member of the group is responsible for the material
given/assigned to them. If anything looks out of the ordinary,
contact the teacher.
3. NO FOOD OR DRINK ALLOWED DURING LABORATORY!
C. Make-ups
1. Tests
-
Tests are announced at least 3 days in advance. If you
happen to be absent the day of the exam and you were in school the day
before and the day after, you will be required to take the exam upon
your return to class. If, on the other hand, you have missed a
couple of days, you will be given up to a week to take the exam.
2. Quizzes
-
If you miss a quiz, it must be taken upon your return to class.
3. Labs
-
If you happen to miss a lab, the best possible time to make it
up would be after school. You must let me know in advance when
you are coming to make it up. All missed labs must be made up
within a week of being missed or else a zero will be given. This
includes the written report.
D. Other Information
1. Equation Sheet*
-
An equation sheet may be used for tests only.
-
No photocopies, computer generated, etc allowed. All
sheets must be hand written!
-
* AP Physics only
-
Equation sheet will be given to you the day of each exam
-
No calculators/equation sheets may be used for a quiz.
2. Homework
-
Homework is assigned approx. every 3-4 days.
-
It will be posted in your weekly schedule.
-
Will be collected at various times during each term (Level 2
only). Remember, to do well, you must attempt every problem
assigned. Memorization does not work well in this course.
3. Cheating
-
Cheating is a violation of our school policy. Cheating on
a laboratory report, quiz, or test will result in an automatic
zero. No questions.
-
Refer to your handbook for further clarification on cheating
and the consequences when caught.
